Bio
Crystal is an experienced orchestra player, versatile freelance flutist and an enthusiastic flute teacher. She holds a Masters degree in Music Performance and Literature from Western University under professor Anne Thompson and a Bachelor Degree in Music Performance/ Flute from UFMG- Federal University of Minas Gerais and Vancouver Academy of Music, where she was taught by Brenda Fedoruk, principal flute for the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and Paollo Burtolucci, UBC contemporary chamber artist. Some of her previous teachers also include Fernando Pacífico, Principal flautist for the Symphonic Orchestra of Minas Gerais, Maurício Freire, soloist for OSESP and Nora Shulman, Principal flute for the TSO.
Crystal has been an active performer in various orchestras, wind ensembles and chamber orchestras such as OPO - Ontario Pops Orchestra, OCMS - Ontario Cross-Cultural Music Society Symphony Orchestra, Western University Wind Ensemble and others.
As a flute instructor with a passion for teaching for over 15 years, Crystal has been coaching students from various ages and levels, ranging from 4 year-old children to adults who decided to take up on a new hobby; from beginners to college students who need flute for skills within their music programs or RCM exams. She is a firm believer that it is never too late to start learning music and that everyone has musicality in them that should be supported and empowered to flourish!
Being a Brazilian Musician, Crystal has always been actively involved in Samba and Choro groups that performed in, concert series, restaurants, festivals and bars throughout the city. With these groups, she performes a variety of Instrumental music, including original arrangements, compositions and improvisatory pieces.
